Personal Training – Overview & Catchup

I didn't have a picture for this post, so here is a random picture of lab puppies I found on the internet.

I suppose I should give some specifics on the personal training, before I start an update.

When we signed up, we met with the “head” of personal training, that talked about how we wanted to turn our bodies into “Fat burning machines.”  I think they had a marketing meeting with that phrase, as we heard it a few times.  I don’t think we really let him complete his sales pitch though, as I had already decided I wanted a personal trainer.  The nice surprise, was that they would run one session with both of us!  Like a Two-Fer!  Since I had already planned on signing up, this was a no brainer.

My wife and I meet with our personal trainer on Tuesdays, at 7 AM.  It is a 30 minute session, with two exercises going at a time.  While my wife does a set of “Exercise A”, I do a set of “Exercise B.” After we each do our set, we switch.  Then we repeat the process until we have each done A & B three times. Exercise A is usually whatever muscle group we are working, and Exercise B is usually an ab/core workout.

I am truly finding out how week my core is.  That’s OK though, because I am doing something about it!

Rachel started out with a general fitness-test of sorts, so she could get a grasp of where we each were fitness-wise, and took more measurements than I have EVER had taken.  Then she proceeded to have us do things that apparently told her how flexible we were, strong we weren’t and how out of shape we were.  It didn’t tell me any of that of course, but it let her design our workouts going forward!

The first week of non-testing us, she set up chest and tricep workout, second week was back and bi-cep, and this week was legs/shoulders.  She wants us to make it to the gym to lift 2 other times, and work what ever muscle group we didn’t workout on Tuesday.  We haven’t exactly managed that yet, but we have been attending a boot-camp class on Thursday evenings, and added a cycling class in on Saturday mornings.

This whole non-running workout is completely new to me, but it is exciting! (And, should help the important part.. Running!)

About

I run, because I am a runner. Having realized that I have always "been a runner" - even when I went years with out running, I am learning how it has integrated itself in all aspects of my life. When I started running in highschool, my perspective on life changed. Funny that I didn't realize how much it had affected it until just recently.
