So last night my wife headed out to girl scouts with Elspeth while Bryce and I stayed home. He wasn’t feeling very well (like clutching a bucket sort of not feeling well.) With that being the case, it was time to dust off the frenemy of mine – the DREADMILL!!!! (boooooo hisssss!)
I hadn’t used it in a while, so I was pleased to hear it wind up when I plugged it in and inserted the little red thing. You know the one that is supposed to be plugged in, and the other goes attached to you in some way? So that if you fall it shuts off? Well, we just leave ours dangling. I’m not sure if anyone actually “wears” that thing. I don’t. But anyway, I turned it on and headed out at 7 mph. Well, I can’t really say “headed out.” I suppose I started up like a hamster on its wheel. at the 1 mile marker, I knocked it up to 9 mph for half a lap (200 meters), and then back down to 7 mph. I repeated this at the 2 mile marker.
At the 3 mile marker? I shut it off. I couldn’t take it anymore. I felt like I hadn’t done enough though, so I did a 1 mile walk at 3 mph, with an incline of 10. It’s the maximum that I can set it to. Why was walking less boring? Because I can read while I do it.
So at least a work out got done, even if I did have to use the dreadmill.
I too don’t particularly like the treadmill but there are times when it is better to use the treadmill than nothing at all and sit on your back side, and this seems like one of them! Well done for having a workout no matter what you used to get it done 🙂
They are horrid, horrid things… But far better than NOT exercising indeed! So they are also wonderful things! (oh the irony..) I have read about people doing marathons on them. I can’t even IMAGINE the boredom involved in that.
Thank you for stopping by and reading I appreciate it! I tried to take a look at your blog, but it said it didn’t exist.
Thanks for trying to have a look at my blog. Not sure why it said it didn’t exist…..that’s news to me, lol. It definitely does exist so I can’t explain that I’m afraid! Hopefully it’s just a wordpress error and it resolves itself soon.
Keep up the good work with the running 🙂
Thanks for letting me know aboutt my blog not existing, I’ve just had a look and the url was wrong on my comments. My blog is at http://www.runtilyoudrop.wordpress.com hope this now works, lol.
I hope Bryce is feeling better.
I think he is.. I know he is enjoying the game I got him from redbox for the PS3. 🙂
I will pass on your well wishes!
you know, one of the women in my running group told me about a treadmill interval training that just might make the time on the ‘mill go by a little quicker. it goes something like this:
1. Warm up with a walk or jog for 1/2 mile
2. Set incline at 1.0 or 1.5 ( I still go with 1.0)
3. Run for 2 minutes at 4.5 pace on treadmill
4. Run for 1 minute at 5.0
5. Run for 1 minute at 5.5
6. Run for 1 minute at 6.0
7. Run for 1 minute at 6.5
8. Run for 1 minute at 7.0
9. Run for 1 minute at 7.5
10. Run for 1 minute at 8.0
REPEAT 5 TIMES (Just over 4 miles in under one hour)
Now of course, you can alter it to suit where you are in terms of ability. But the point of it all is to make it challenging. I’ve done it (granted I had to stop at 6.0) and it was a great workout. Made me look at the treadmill in a whole new light. Give it a shot!
