Time to Start!

So, we all know of (and I am sure – have been) those people who know they are out of shape, and need to start eating right or exercise more.  When I started my running regime, I know I told myself – “tomorrow.. I can do it tomorrow..” or maybe next week.   Monday is a great day to start!!!  Well, obviously I started  – as I have been running pretty regularly. However, I have talked about what I am going to do in addition to running… and then I talked about it some more.  I have discussed video games as fitness, but never tackled doing it more than trying them out to see what they were like.

Well, yesterday WAS tomorrow.  I headed out the door for a longer run, planning on doing 7 or 8 miles.  After the first 1/2 mile, I wasn’t feeling quite “right” so I decided to change my plan. I headed out for a shorter run, but ran uphill to where my son’s choir practice was (that way I could bum a ride home off of my folks – who take him and pick him up.  Plus I got to listen to the songs!)  So, a nice 3.5 mile – with at least 2 miles of it up hill – was a fairly good work out.  However, I didn’t feel like I had done enough.

So, I got home and looked over at my exercise equipment I had just gotten recently – it’s a fake “Total Gym” mad by a company called Maxxus.  I found a whole bunch of youtube videos made by “getfitafter40” (and no, I’m not 40,) that showed a great variety of exercises.  Back before my children, I used to work out every morning in a gym.  The video has shown me some exercises for each muscle group, allowing me to start those workouts again.  And last night – I did.  A nice Chest and Tricep workout after my run – really made up for not being able to do the distance I wanted.  It also reminded me of how much I enjoy “lifting.”  So, I have started my “cross-training” – which will help build more core strength – and that CANT hurt my running!

About

I run, because I am a runner. Having realized that I have always "been a runner" - even when I went years with out running, I am learning how it has integrated itself in all aspects of my life. When I started running in highschool, my perspective on life changed. Funny that I didn't realize how much it had affected it until just recently.
