Seriously, I was surprised too. You would think the dryer blowing hot air out of that small vent in the side of the house would help take care of that “Teens” temperature out there.. Nope, I got home started the washer and dryer hoping it would knock the temperature up a few degrees, but no luck.
Petting the cat didn’t help either. (not that I thought it would..)
However, after running out of ways to put off running – I found that putting on layers of clothing before going outside did make the temperature bearable. So off into the 14 degree temperatures I went. I did begin running with my bank robber impersonation in full swing with a bandana up over my nose/mouth. After 1/2 a mile or so I was warmed up enough and able to pull it down and just run.
Yesterday was MUCH better than the day before, as my lungs seemed to be ok with the cold weather. I didn’t feel that need to stop and gasp uncontrollably, and my “ice-cream-headache” didn’t come back. YES!!!! I thought I was going to do 5 miles, but my route only turned out to be a hair over 4 1/2. IT seems any route I pick right now ends up in the 4 mile range, regardless of whether it was planned as a 3 mile run, or a 5. Odd.
The run felt really good, the worst part is the amount of time it takes to get all the layers on!
Mile 1: 8:48
Mile 2: 8:55
Mile 3: 9:08
Mile 4: 9:06
It’s no coincidence that mile 3 and 4 are over the 9 minute mark, and those are the miles I had to wait for traffic lights on!
I didn’t almost get run over today either.. And that’s also a good thing!
