Friday evening, my wife and I headed out to the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 mile Run Kick Off reception. (That totally needs a shorter name.) I am not even embarrassed to admit our first date-night in Eons, was to a running reception – you all know what a run-nerd I am already right?
I had misjudged the Metro-trip time, so we did show up about 30 minutes late. As one should be to a gala, we were fashionably late.
There was a pretty good crowd there, although my blurry picture doesn’t make that as easy to tell – so trust me on this one.
It was a pretty good deal for a night out – $15/person and you received a $10 gift card to Potomac Running, a free drink (Beer, Red or White house wine or the Mint Cherry Julep), hors devours, and a free T-Shirt.
That’s right – I said a Free t-Shirt. This reception held the unveiling of the T-Shirt design for the 2014 Cherry Blossom 10 Mile run
The design was marvelous! You will notice in the picture, that they showed it off in two colors. They left it to the attendees to decide which color was preferred! All attendees voted on which color they liked best, and then received the color they voted for! (My wife and I were a wash. She voted for Grey, I voted for Green.)
They also had one of the coolest fund-raisers I have ever heard of – a WinePull
For a $25.00 donation to the Children’s Miracle Network, you got a bottle of wine in a bag. That wine COULD be worth up to $140.00. Now, this fund-raiser was one of the coolest I have ever heard of, and I liked it for two reasons.
- I love Wine.
- I love the Children’s Miracle Network.
You can see why I was a big fan of this. My wife and I each had a pull, and we got to nice Reds. (A win for me, as I like reds.. My wife? Not so much..) As an added bonus, they gave everyone that “pulled” a $50.00 gift card to Naked Wines.com! bonus!
While we were not fortunate enough to win one of the free entries to the race, We met some great people.

Marcus and Candace from http://healthymarc.tumblr.com/
We finished out the night talking to Marcus and Candace. Marcus blogs over at http://healthymarc.tumblr.com/ He had also entered in the Social Runner Competition.
Speaking of the Social Runner Competition, I want to Congratulate Doug and Francine on being chosen! I have no doubt they will do an awesome job! While I didn’t win, I have to admit I was pleased to make it into the final 10! I had received an email from Molly Barackman-Eder, the Social Media Coordinator for the run last week. I had a great conversation with her at the Gala, and let her know I would still be happy to help spread the word! I hoe to hear from her!
All in all it was a great time.
Great post! We’ll keep in touch
