Tallahassee has done a beautiful job of ensuring green space through out the area with plenty of trails for running/hiking, mountain biking and horse back riding. Last night my son and I headed over to the Lafayette Heritage park trail for an evening run.
I want to pause here and explain how running with my son works these days.
As little as 12 or 13 months ago, running with my son meant we headed out together, chatted and had a fun time. One year (and a cross country and track season) later, running with the big is going to the same place, agreeing on how long (time not distance) we are going to go, followed by his taking off and not seeing him again unless we go around a loop in opposite directions!
I admit to being a proud father..
Back to the subject at hand however. The park we went to is actually a task that exists to connect other parks. We start at the JR Alford Greenway, head up the trail around the lake, through Lafayette park, ending back at the Greenway. It’s a beautiful run on a well used, but not overly crowded trail. There is an extension of the trail up to Tom Brown Park that we have yet to explore.
There are families, people fishing, cyclists, walkers, runners and even people canoeing. Most of the run is in the shade, which is a very important feature here in Florida.
On to run quality.. It felt good, with less walking than my runs have been including. I don’t know how far I ran, as my gps wasn’t storing and I got a little lost.. I did enjoy the run however!
Its difficult to get back to running, but it’s a journey with making.
As a reminder, I am an ambassador for the St. Michaels Running Festival on May 19th. Its in the beautiful eastern shore in Maryland – and you can register 3 weeks early, with a discount! Just click this link, and use the code AMBNEID
Looks like an amazing park to run in!
