12 year old daughters running in the chilly Florida Air (60 degrees)

So my daughter is 12 going on attitude.  Now, for a 12 year old – she doesn’t have a bad attitude, but it is there.. Along with stubborn bizarre views (at no point here am I stating she is just like her mother.)  Well, part of her current 12-year-old-ness, is that she doesn’t like to wear shorts.  Preferably, she wants to wear black running pants and a black sweatshirt.  Now, she can’t wear said black sweat-shirt running, because then it would be sweaty and she couldn’t wear it to school

Seriously, this is a thing.

Notice.. not shorts, but black running pants..

We had to order her to wear shorts the other day when it was 90, and she pouted for a while… I think she only got past it – because she had her black sweat-shirt on.

Any way, on to this morning.. See – it was kind of chilly this morning, and even with her black running pants on, she didn’t want the sweat shirt because she couldn’t (you already see where this is going, right?) wear it to school.  Well, at least running warms a person up, right?

Well, regardless she was up and running – that is the part that matters right?  I did extend our loop up one street – but the impressive thing was the pace.  Little Miss set the pace, I just ran at her speed.  When we hit the one mile marker (just after a pause to take the picture above) we were at a 12:33 mile.  She would have missed her PT requirement for sea cadets by 9 seconds at that point, but she reassured me she would not stop for pictures with flamingos while taking her PRT.

We Averaged MUCH faster than that, with our final being an 11:44 average pace.  She will be able to beat the boy’s PRT time of 10:22 before much longer!  I know she is looking forward to that, and the look of shock on the other cadet’s faces..

Now the process we are currently using is a 1 minute run, with a 30 second walk.  As she gets used to running, her times are going to drop as that walk goes away!  In no time, both kids are going to blow me out of the water!

She wasn’t feeling well at the end of the run.

Unfortunately, her tummy was bothering her a bit when we got home.. She is staying in today..  poor little one.  But she ran like a champ!

About

I run, because I am a runner. Having realized that I have always "been a runner" - even when I went years with out running, I am learning how it has integrated itself in all aspects of my life. When I started running in highschool, my perspective on life changed. Funny that I didn't realize how much it had affected it until just recently.
