Namaste.

Last night was our first Yoga class.  I wasn’t sure what to expect, only having done Yoga on the Wii.  The interesting thing to me – is that what I learned on the Wii did help! (And Seriously, who woulda thunk it?)

Warrior 1 Pose

The instructor was faced with the challenge of walking into a room where she knew no one and knew nobody’s levels, and teaching a class.  She started out with asking if anyone knew anything about yoga (not really – unless you count the Wii).  So she worked on teaching us some basic poses.

Mountain Pose

She did a great job of modifying the poses for those that were not physically able to do the traditional ones – and next time she wants to try a chair for several people who have knee problems – I am looking forward to seeing how she adapts them (although my knees didn’t give me any issues to be concerned with.

Warrior 2 Pose

I found the bottom of my foot was cramping quite a bit during some of the exercises.  I asked the instructor about it afterwords – she didn’t have any ideas except “eat more potassium.”  – Everyone’s favorite generic-cramp answer.  A quick Google after I got home did let me know that I wasn’t a total freak – that others had the same issue as well and even proposed some solutions.

Child's Pose. This one hurts the top of my feet.

Overall it was a good experience – I am looking forward to seeing what she does now that she knows what our class experience-level is.

As far as running is concerned, I am up for a 6 mile run today.  I was awake this morning to go, but my buddy that is running the Marine Corps Marathon with me wants to run together once a week – so we are supposed to meet up tonight.  It will be nice to have company.

I have also been contemplating trying to get my RRCA Coaching Certification next year.  I don’t know what I would do with it but it still strikes me as a good move.  I have also been reading up on “Chi-Running.”  It struck me that since I am doing some of it due to the VFF’s, it might be worth learning more.

About

I run, because I am a runner. Having realized that I have always "been a runner" - even when I went years with out running, I am learning how it has integrated itself in all aspects of my life. When I started running in highschool, my perspective on life changed. Funny that I didn't realize how much it had affected it until just recently.
