Chris Thater Race Report… JUST KIDDING!!!

So, this last weekend was the Chris Thater Memorial Races.  Now practically speaking this is mostly a bunch of bicycle races (with a motorcycle as the “pace-car.”  I love watching the motorcycle “lead the pack.”) but on sunday at 10 am – is the Chris Thater Memorial 5k.  I like this race a lot – as it is about 1/2 a mile from my house, and the course actually goes within 500 feet of my house.  I have been VERY nervous about running it – considering my recurring calf pain.  Sunday morning rolled around and I took stock of the situation.  My calf was still sore in one spot (about the size of the tip of my finger).  After weighing the pro’s and cons – I decided to pass on it.  Then on the Face Book page – “everything is cancelled for today.”  This was further followed up with:
As an endnote to this morning’s 2011 Chris Thater Memorial Race cancellation, the decision to cancel Sunday’s race and music events was made early Sunday morning by a group of city, county, emergency services, and race officials based on the latest National Weather Service predictions for Hurricane Irene’s impact on the area. Safety was the determining factor. The events will not be rescheduled, but we hope to see you all again next year.

I would have liked to have run it – I really like the course, the race is always fast, and the crowd is incredible.  But I do feel vindicated in my choice to NOT run it.  Though, I have to admit – I do now wonder if I will be getting a refund 🙂

So I was hoping to get my bicycle tires yesterday.. And Learned my reading comprehension isn’t what it used to be.  See, when I ordered the tubes/tires I checked shipping/delivery date to make sure that I was getting the cheapest that could arrive the soonest.  Well, it seems I misread, as according to may Amazon order:

Delivery Estimate: September 2, 2011 – September 8, 2011

This picture has absolutely nothing to do with this blog-post. He just happens to be my favorite muppet so I felt he deserved some face-time.

Aaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh!   This is NOT going to help me recover.  I almost went running last night after reading that – even though I DO need to take two weeks off to let it all heal.  As much as I hate to do it – I may be going into the YMCA to use their ellipticals and bikes.  I hate stationary exercise of ANY sort, but these are worse than a treadmill.

Tonight is Yoga-night..  Soothing and relaxing….  However, I still miss running and it has  only been two weeks, I have no idea how “Caution:Redhead Running” has kept her sanity throughout her injury.  She has been unable to run for 5 months, and  I just have 2-3 weeks stints of no running!  I have sooo much respect for her – she has kept a positive attitude about it, and is doing all different sorts of ways to keep herself in shape.  GO RED!  In all honesty, it is good for perspective – I don’t have a long-term injury so I can’t really complain (but will anyway..)

About

I run, because I am a runner. Having realized that I have always "been a runner" - even when I went years with out running, I am learning how it has integrated itself in all aspects of my life. When I started running in highschool, my perspective on life changed. Funny that I didn't realize how much it had affected it until just recently.
