I was up this morning for my new weekly meetup with Theresa over at Go Believe Conquer. It seems that she suffers from that disease that should be terminal, called being a “Morning Person.”
It seems that someone has invented a 4:30 AM, to be a counterpart exactly 12 hours away from 4:30 PM. I vaguely remember that from my days in the United States Navy, but I recall 4:30 AM as being a bedtime. As in the time you go to bed, NOT the time you get out of bed. I now know, that this 4:30 “AM” can indeed be a time to get up. What a stupid idea.
So begrudgingly, and while hurting my pillow’s feelings I might add, i rolled out of bed at that time – and got dressed to go out and run. In really cold weather. Early. And Cold. I got out of bed for this?
Surprisingly, my body did continue on the path toward getting ready to run – and even got a cup of coffee going. I believe that the idea of coffee carried me… Then, since I was all dressed up – it was silly NOT to head out the door to run. So I did.
Theresa had posted on the super-secret Crofton Running board (the first rule of the Crofton Running board is to not talk about the Crofton Running board..Hope its ok to type about it.) that she was planning 5 miles for the day – so I got my head in place to do five miles! We are very fortunate that we have a nice 3 mile-and-change loop in Crofton, and a side street of a loop of enough to bring the run to almost 5 miles (with the addition of a parking lot loop.) I had been unaware of the added loop until Theresa shared that bit of running knowledge!
The run went well, some conversation, some quiet running, some complaining about the song “Baby Got Back.” All in all it was nice. I felt some twinges in my hip around mile 3ish (I know, i still haven’t given you the run down on that.. I will soon! I promise!) but it wasn’t anything that was worth walking/holding back for.
After two more cups of coffee at home, I headed off to the gym for the joint personal training session with my wife. Did some legwork, and some shoulders (and of course core), and scheduled an additional appointment next week. I want to get an actual written schedule going – especially since I have moved to running AND swimming, switching on alternating days. I think a set workout pattern will help with getting to where I want to be.
Now, because you have read all the way through a post, that was mostly whining about a god-awful morning hour.. Here is a picture of a wiemeraner puppy.
For the record.. Yes, i do plan on whining about the time of day – every Tuesday.
you’ll get used to the mornings 🙂 I used to think getting up at 4:30 was ridiculous and now meet the same above mentioned at 4 am for carnage 🙂 It happened over time and wouldn’t want it any other way. Unfortunately that makes my times for running a challenge. Great job today in the cold!
