Day 7!!!!
As you can see from my wonderful image to the left, it was cold out today when I went to work out (though, this was actually taken AFTER I worked out.)
These are the sort of temperatures I faced in upstate NY.
I left upstate NY. In fact, one of the key reasons I left upstate NY, was the fact that we had temperatures like this regularly in the winter, and I don’t really like these temperatures. With that in mind, today was obviously going to be an indoor workout.
Up at 5:30 AM, and off to LA Fitness! I had decided that Wednesdays should be my speed-work day. Going on the treadmill isn’t going to change this. That means its time for:
CURVY ROADRUNNERS’ TREADMILL WORKOUT FROM HELL!!!!
This one is a favorite.. and by favorite I mean painful. Effective, but painful.
I started with a brief warm up, and then reset the treadmill so it wouldn’t cut down my average speed. 🙂 (Insert the song “You’re So Vain” as the background music here)
Then the fun began:
6.0 mph – 1 minute
6.5 mph – 1 minute
7.0 mph – 1 minute
7.5 mph – 1 minute
8.0 mph – 1 minute
8.5 mph – 1 minute
9.0 mph – 1 minute <————-OMG THIS IS FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8.5 mph – 1 minute
8.0 mph – 1 minute
7.5 mph – 1 minute
7.0 mph – 1 minute
6.5 mph – 1 minute
6.0 mph – 1 minute
Sigh.. Next one.
6.0 mph – 1 minute
6.5 mph – 1 minute
7.0 mph – 1 minute
7.5 mph – 1 minute
8.0 mph – 1 minute
8.5 mph – 1 minute <—— This seemed much faster this time. 9.0 simply wasn’t happening.
8.0 mph – 1 minute
7.5 mph – 1 minute
7.0 mph – 1 minute
6.5 mph – 1 minute
6.0 mph – 1 minute
6.0 mph – 1 minute — To bring it to 3 miles even.
You can’t get faster, without running faster. I was actually pretty pleased that I hit the 9 mph the first time, considering this is only my 7th day back as a regular runner. By the end of the month, both cycles will be up to 9, and I can start the journey toward pushing it the upper limit to 10 mph!
this seems terrifying!!
I hate treadmills and refuse to run inside ever (although it rarely gets as cold as that here) I just have so many mental pictures of it all going wrong and me flying off the back and / or face planting the treadmill in a spectacular you tube worthy disaster!
so I am doubly impressed with both the speed and the fact that you went on a treadmill with no death!
I do understand that fear. I actually won’t run on a treadmill unless there IS room to go flying off the back. My wife proposed my treadmill being setup where a book case was right up against the back, but I couldn’t do it as I had visualizations of falling and then being stuck – can you imagine the road rash from a treadmill going on and on and on while you screamed for help?
Argh!!! I can imagine that all too well!!
Hahaha!!
Nice…
