#Janathon Day 7 – Curvy Roadrunners’ Treadmill workout from hell.

Day 7!!!!

wpid-wp-1420631765533.pngAs you can see from my wonderful image to the left, it was cold out today when I went to work out (though, this was actually taken AFTER I worked out.)

These are the sort of temperatures I faced in upstate NY.

I left upstate NY.  In fact, one of the key reasons I left upstate NY, was the fact that we had temperatures like this regularly in the winter, and I don’t really like these temperatures.    With that in mind, today was obviously going to be an indoor workout.

Up at 5:30 AM, and off to LA Fitness! I had decided that Wednesdays should be my speed-work day.    Going on the  treadmill isn’t going to change this.  That means its time for: Read more ›

Whole 30, Day 5 – First day of Whole 30 on the run, and Whole 30 info for Athletes!

Since my Janathon and Whole 30 experiment seem to be going through the same time period (both end on the last day of January), it seems a good idea to post both!  This way, if my wife ever suckers me into doing this again, I have visual evidence that it was a good experience.

Breakfast of Champions!

Breakfast of Champions!

Yesterday was interesting as far as the “Whole 30” is concerned, because it was the first day of our usual hectic schedule, while trying to eat well.   Now,I don’t want to say that my wife is spoiling me with this meal-plan…. But she totally is.  I came downstairs to a per-packed bag of Whole 30  compliant foods.  So after driving in to work, I had breakfast!

This included more of her MARVELOUS home-made chicken sausage.  I didn’t bother to re-heat it, as it was just as tasty cold!   Though I have to admit, the  hard-boiled eggs did not make as fine of a companion to the sausage as the over easy eggs the day before had (#firstworldproblems.) #Janathon Day 6 – Personal Training. (I promise to run a mile later today)

This is why they invented gyms. That are warm inside, and have no snow.

This is why they invented gyms. That are warm inside, and have no snow.

So, Janathon Day 6 – a rest day for my legs!   it also happens to be Tuesday Morning, which is the personal training day for my wife and I!  I had not doubt today would be interesting as we had taken the last two weeks off (My wife has some back  issues going on, and my hip needed to improve,) but our personal trainer was surprisingly kind.  Apparently injuries bring out a more protective side!  She was very careful on back/hip flexor potential items, modifying any exercises to ensure we didn’t whine more get hurt worse.

But it was a nice chest workout, with a wee little bit of plyometrics.  Between  the injuries and time off, she really  kept it at a reasonable pace and didn’t over-push us.

This does mean I owe a run of some sort (a mile on my treadmill most  likely) before the end of the day – just to keep  my run-streak going.

Really.. This is the entire blog posting today.

#Janathon Day 5 – the treadmill

So, running on the treadmill means no cool multi-colored maps, or neat charts showing splits.

That’s it… that’s my picture.  I used the first tenth of a mile or so to warm up (aka set my music up,) and then set the speed to 7mph.  Read more ›

The Whole 30.

wpid-wp-1420469194192.pngSo, I try to be a supportive husband.  I do so for a couple of reasons, for one – my wife puts up with me, and that shows she needs all the support she can get, and secondly, she is simply an awesome woman and I am proud to be able to support her.  So when she came to me, and suggested we do the Whole 30 diet starting January 1st, I immediately agreed. Now, I will admit, that MAYBE, I should have done some research into this before agreeing.  It wouldn’t have changed my answer however, so I suppose it’s worked out just fine the way it is.

Now we did push it off until the 2nd as our start date, because the only food we had in the house on the first – was the left over items from our in-house family New Years Celebration. It’s not like those chips were going to eat themselves you know!  We did get out and get the food required to start our new plan (By we, I mean her) and kicked it off on the 2nd.

So what is the Whole 30?  Well, I won’t lie – I’m still figuring it out myself regarding all of the specifics, but in general it is an attempt to remove any foods from your diet that might be having any potential negative impact on your health/lifestyle for 30 days.  This includes Sugar, Dairy, Grains, Legumes, and a bunch of stabilizers/additives. #Janathon Day 4!

wpid-wp-1420409747162.png

Hadn’t posted a picture in a while.

So between Janathon, and this diet-thingy my wife has me doing… It amazes me that it is only the 4th of January.  Feels like I have been doing this for a week or two!  I think tomorrow I will get a post up about the Whole30, which is the diet we are on.  So far it seems to involve my wife making extremely awesome food, and giving some to me.

I’m a fan.

But back to Janathon, today is day 4 and a Sunday!  That means LONG RUN DAY!!! Read more ›

#Janathon Day 3! A Nice run/walk with the boy.

Ahh… Day 3.  My legs were a we bit tired from the previous day’s runs, so today was a slow recovery run.  My son hadn’t run with me since the bridge-run, so I decided he needed to stretch his legs on this rainy day.  I let him know ahead of time, we could walk as he saw fit or needed, since he was just recently a member of the flu epidemic going around the country.   He (grudgingly) agreed, and off we went!  I apologize, there was supposed to be a picture of the two of us in our running gear here, but we both forgot about it.

The plan was our old two-mile loop that we have done so many times!

wpid-wp-1420316950186.pngHe held out for the first loop quite well, though right before the one mile marker, he asked if we could walk, his sinus pressure was getting to be a bit much.     Read more ›

#Janathon Day 2 – A Little bit faster, a little bit further.

image

Ow, ow, ow… err… I mean Janathon, Day 2 is complete!  Yesterday I was suprisingly not sore, so I thought the same 3.3 mile route would be nice.  The temperature  was about the same, so I headed out in shorts and a jacket.  My lungs felt much better than the previous day, and I was really enjoying the run.  My legs were happy, I was happy!

What Are Added Sugars?

I’m going to be posting some items regarding eating soon – as my wife has convinced me to try something out.. This post is both interesting – and pertinent to future posts of mine!

  • cakes
  • cookies

#Janathon Day 1 – Running after the Flu and Hip-Issues.

So a new year brings a new… JANATHON!!!!!!

So what is Janathon?  It is a commitment to do something physical for every day in January.  Yesterday, being January 1st – was the first day of Janathon – so off on a run I went!

1jansplitsNow, December was a bit of a rough month. I got the flu that was going around, which knocked me down for over a week. Then, as I recovered from that I started suffering from some hip pain.  I’m still  not entirely sure what it is, and it is still there (although it has lessened.) From talking with my wife, the symptoms are very similar to her IT Band issue (I have hip pain, knee pain, leg all together is tight..), but it is also reminiscent of the pain I felt when I had my hernia.  The good news is, running didn’t make it worse – which is different from my hernia issues… Read more ›
